New Delhi, Nov 16 (UNI) The Supreme Court on Friday said the exiled CBI director Alok Verma would get a copy of the Central Vigilance Commission's report on corruption allegations against him.
The apex court bench, headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi, passed the orders after hearing the petition filed by Mr Verma seeking a direction against the Centre's order and decision to send him on leave.
Mr Verma was removed from the post of Director of Central Bureau of Investigation by the government in the small hours of October 24. Mr Verma and his deputy Rakesh Asthana were sent on leave. On the very same day, Mr Verma challenged his removal in SC.
The top court, appointed retired SC judge, Justice A K Patnaik on October 26 to head CVC inquiry into allegations against Mr Verma.
"We express our gratitude to Justice Patnaik. We have perused the report, and are of the view that at this stage the copy of the same report should be produced to the counsel of Mr Verma," the bench in Friday's hearing noted.
The apex court asked Mr Verma to file his response in a sealed cover on Monday and posted the matter for further hearing to Tuesday.
Mr Verma's advocate, Fali S Nariman, told the apex court that he would be ready with the response on CVC’s allegations by Monday.
The bench noted that the reports has to be kept confidential in the interest of sanctity & public confidence in the CBI.
