CBI to seek SC permission to question Sen in Shillong

Shillong, Feb 11 (UNI) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is likely to seek the Supreme Court’s permission to question Saradha group’s CMD Sudipta Sen and his close aide, Debjani Mukherjee in the Saradha chit fund scam, an official said on Tuesday.

On the other hand, the CBI has asked Kumar to appear again on Wednesday at its Shillong office for the fifth consecutive day for further questioning in the chit fund scam.

A CBI official said that the probe agency will approach the apex court seeking its permission to bring Sen and Mukherjee to Shillong for questioning and to confront them with the Kolkata Police Commissioner in the chit fund scams.

Kumar was confronted with former Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP, Kunal Ghosh for the two consecutive days during the investigation.

Ghosh, who was arrested on November 23, 2013 in connection with chit fund scam left Shillong after the CBI completed its investigation with him.

The Calcutta High Court had granted Ghosh interim bail against a bail bond of Rs 2 lakh in 2016.

Following the apex court order, the CBI setup a fresh 10-member probing team on Thursday summoned the Kolkata Police top officer to appear at a designated place in Shillong on February 9.

Supreme Court had directed Kumar to cooperate with the CBI, barely 48 hours after a team of central investigating agency was denied entry into the residence of the city police chief and herded to the Shakespeare Police station and detained them for hours.
