CBI recovers key documents after arresting Punjab DIG on bribery allegations

Chandigarh, Oct 16 (UNI) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Punjab Police DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar of the Ropar Range for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 5 lakh from a scrap dealer in Mandi Gobindgarh. The arrest followed a trap laid by CBI teams from Delhi and Chandigarh on Thursday.
Following the arrest, a 52-member CBI team carried out extensive searches at Bhullar’s Mohali office and his residence in Sector 40, Chandigarh. Several important documents were reportedly seized during the operation. Officials also brought in a cash-counting machine to Bhullar’s residence, indicating the possible recovery of large sums of money.
Bhullar, a 2007-batch IPS officer and son of former Punjab DGP Mahal Singh Bhullar, is being interrogated at an undisclosed location. Sources said he will be produced before a CBI court in Mohali on Friday for remand.
