CBI probe in SC scholarship scam will expose Amarinder govt: Chugh

CBI probe in SC scholarship scam will expose Amarinder govt: Chugh

Chandigarh, Jul 29 (UNI) BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh on Thursday welcomed the CBI taking over investigations in the post-matric SC scholarship in Punjab in which thousands of SC students were deprived of the scholarship money provided by the Centre.
In a statement here, Chugh said the scandal involved more than Rs 300 crore which the Amarinder Singh government bungled making the SC students run from door to door for relief.
The BJP leader said instead of instituting a fair inquiry into the scandal Chief Minister Amarinder Singh sought to protect his cabinet colleague who had engineered the scandal.
"Instead of initiating a vigilance inquiry or a judicial probe the Amarinder Singh government gave a clean chit to the cabinet minister demonstrating its callous insensitivity to the needs and demands of the SC students", he said.
Chugh said the BJP had been highlighting the matter for the last six months but the chief minister seemed determined to bury the scam under the carpet. He hoped that the CBI investigation would bring the guilty persons to book and provide relief to the SC students.
