New Delhi, June 14 (UNI) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Sunday said that they have arrested a Senior Section Engineer (SSE), C&W, of Northeast Frontier Railway in Silchar, Assam, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe from a contractor.
According to the CBI, the accused Kuntal Chudhary officer had allegedly sought one per cent of a pending bill amount of around ₹20 lakh related to work already executed by the complainant.
The contractor had approached the engineer on June 12 seeking clearance of the bill, following which the accused allegedly demanded illegal gratification for processing the payment.
Acting on the complaint, the CBI registered a case on June 13 and laid a trap. The accused was caught red-handed while allegedly demanding and accepting ₹20,000 from the complainant.
The arrested official will be produced before the competent court in Guwahati on June 14. Meanwhile, searches are being conducted at his residential premises.
Further investigation in the case is underway.
