CBI arrests IT official for accepting bribe

New Delhi, Jan 3 (UNI) An Income Tax (IT) officer has been arrested in Mumbai for accepting bribe of Rs one lakh from a complainant, CBI said here on Wednesday.

The probe agency said a case was registered against Ulhas Lokhande under section seven of PC Act on a complaint alleging demand of bribe for completion of Assessment of Income of complainant’s sister for the Financial Year 2009-10.

The CBI said it was further alleged that on being called upon by ITO, the complainant and his sister met him on December 29 at his office with regard to the assessment of her income tax, where he handed over the assessment Order and demanded Rs 1.25 lakh for the favours shown to her in the order.

After negotiation, the accused agreed to accept Rs one lakh. A trap was laid and the accused was caught the red handed while accepting the bribe amount, it stated.
The CBI said that searches were also conducted today at the office and residential premises of accused in Mumbai.
