Kochi, June 9 (UNI) “CBEC and Service Tax along with Kerala Commercial Tax Department will work in unison for the smooth implementation of GST in the state” State Central Excise, Customs and service tax Chief Commissioner Pullela Nageswara Rao said today.
Speaking after inaugurating a one-day workshop on ‘’GST—Transition and way forward’’, organised by the FICCI along with the KPMG, with the support of ICAI, Cochin Chapter and World Trade Centre here, he said the Commissioner of Central excise, Customs and Service Tax and VAT commissioner would work in partnership to sort out the issues and problems, if any faced by the business, trading and industry community while implementing the GST.
The departments would be the partners in progress to the business fraternity, he said, adding that the role of the departments would change from enforcement agencies to facilitators.
Instead of worrying about uncertain tax regime, business community could concentrate on expanding their business prospects, Mr Rao added.
In his address, Central Zone Commercial Taxed Deputy Commissioner Basu Ramanarayana Kathik said that Kerala state was one among the first states in the county to complete 70 per cent enrolment to GST regime. Business community has to be more vigilant and proactive while complying with the GST regime.
Transparency and credibility of the supplier’s was highly essential in the chain of business activities. He also added that in the globalised situation, the entire County would become a unified market under GST.
The GST is scheduled to be implemented across the country from July 1, 2017. It replaces all indirect taxes levied on goods and services by the Centre and States, making for a single, easier taxation system. Central Excise and Customs and state government officers are already trained for the switch over to GST, Mr Kathik said.
