Cauvery inspate downstream KRS/Kabini, land slides in Kodagu

Bengaluru, Aug 17 (UNI) Coastal and Southern Karnataka is tottering under monsoon fury with rail and road traffic impaired and several areas marooned with people rescued by defence and civil authorities with the State reeling under one of the severe natural disasters.
The picturesque Kodagu district painted a gruesome image pounded by massive rains and landslides making the life of people extremely miserable as Friday saw no let up in the monsoon fury. Two persons were reportedly killed in landslide in the district.
Reporrts reaching here said rescue and relief operations have been severely affected in the district in view of continuous rains and landslides in most of the state highway roads. Civil Defence teams are clearing the debries and with district administration personnel. The Madikeri-Hassan state highway has been completely submerged following the release of water from the Hemavathi reservoir. Traffic has been prohibited on the bridge across River Harangi at Kudige in Kushalnagar taluk of Kodagu district, as cracks were identified there. Several houses collapsed in a few localities of Madikeri city, following heavy rains since last 24 hours .
