Srinagar, Jan 22 (UNI) Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) continued for second straight day on Wednesday in south Kashmir district of Pulwama, where so far a jawan of Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and an Army soldier were killed in exchange of fire on Tuesday.
With the first light in the morning, security forces resumed search operation at a village in Khrew in Pulwama which was halted last night owing to darkness.
Earlier, it was reported that two militants were killed in the encounter. However, so far no body has been recovered.
Sources said though the CASO was stopped late last night, additional security forces had been deployed despite sub zero temperature to prevent militants to escape, they said.
Security forces used flash lights and drones to keep a close watch in the area, they said.
With the first light this morning security forces resumed search operation in the area, including nearby forest, they said. So far, no fresh contact was established with the militants.
Giving details about the operation, Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh said following specific information about presence of two militants, a joint Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) was launched by Special Operations Group (SOG) of J&K police, Army and CRPF at Khew on Tuesday.
He said an encounter ensued when security forces were cordoning off the area. “An SPO Shahbaz Ahmad and an Army soldier were killed in the exchange of fire,” he said.
He said the operation in Khrew was resumed. “The operation continues to track the militants,” he added.
