New Delhi, Mar 17 (UNI) Disfavouring cash transfers of Rs 2000 per farmer under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Scheme, when the election process is underway, the Congress on Sunday said that if the EC allows it, its credibility will be destroyed forever.
In a series of tweets, senior Congress leader and former Finance Minister P Chidambaram said, 'All eyes are on the Election Commission. Will EC allow the government to make more cash transfers of Rs 2000 per farmer?
'This is a plain and simple bribe for votes when the election process is under way. If EC allows it, the credibility of the EC will be destroyed forever.
'RBI allowed demonetisation and lost its credibility. Rs 2000 cash transfer will do to EC what demonetisation did to RBI,' he added.
Under the scheme, the government announced a grant of Rs 6000 financial grant to the peasants in three installments, to be given in 2019 and 2020.
