Caring for rural elderlies: Work on Panchvati park starts in HP

Hamirpur, Jul 1 (UNI) The Himachal Pradesh government has come up with a unique project, of creating a recreational activity park for the aged persons in rural areas.

Titled Panchvati Parks, the project aims to tend to the recreational needs of the grey-haired population, especially those living in rural areas of the hill state.

According to HP Panchayati Raj Minister Virender Kanwar on Teusday, as many as 100 such parks would come up in different parts of the state.

Mainly, these recreation places would be set up in rural areas, where such facilities were remote for the elders.

The Panchwati Scheme was notified on June 3, 2020 by the Rural Development Department and formally launched by Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on June 8 at Shimla.

Under the scheme in the first phase, land sites have been identified for parks at Development Block Gohar, district Mandi, Development block Bangana in district Una, development blocks Banjar and Naggar in district Kullu, development block Kaza in Lahaul-Spiti district and development blocks at Nagrota Bagwan and Sulah in Kangra district.

Besides, development blocks Paonta Sahib and Pachhad in Sirmaur district, development blocks Tissa and Bhattiyat in Chamba district, development block Kalpa in Kinnaur district, development block Kandaghat in Solan district, development block Rohru in Shimla district and development block Nadaun in Hamirpur district have been chosen, to offer a wide range of activities to meet the physical, emotional and social needs of elderly in the state.
