Cargo handling at Haldia and Kidderpore of KoPT is on despite country-wide lockdown

Kolkata Apr 1 (UNI) Cargo handling at the Kidderppore Dock System and Halida in Medinipur is in full swing despite country-wide lock-down to keep free movement of all commodities.
As per Union government guidelines during lock down period the movement of essential goods via port and Indian Railways, including movement of empty trucks as well as trucks carrying cargo from dock are being carried out at Kolkata Port Trust.
KoPT chairman Vinit Kumar said the operational work has been carried out bot at HDC and KDS with the co-operation and support of all concerned including labour unions, workers, stakeholders, agents and the Port employees.
All precautionary measures including maintaining of social distancing, wearing of PPE, sanitizing etc. were followed throughout to avoid spreading of COVID-19 virus.
During the last 3 days ( from 29.03.2020 to 31.03.2020), 11 vessels have arrived for cargo work and 9 vessels have sailed out after completing cargo operation.
Besides, lighterage operation was also carried out in few vessels at Sandheads and Sagar.
During last 3 days at Halida a total of 188506 M.T. of cargo was handled and the major commodities are Paraxylene, Naptha, LPG, Coking Coal, Thermal Coal , Container , Steel , Limestone, Steam Coal, Butadiene, Benzene etc.
Moreover, receiving and dispatch of cargo by road/rail is also undertaken by port with its own manpower.
At the Kidderpore Dock System for the same period nine vessels have arrived for cargo work and 8 vessels have sailed out after completing cargo operation. During last 3 days a total 3181 TEUs was handled and the major commodities are Raw Paper, Raw Plastic, Steel, Electronic Items, Solar panels.
Pharmaceuticals etc. and 2700 Tons of Break Bulk, 16122 tonnes of Liquid cargo (HSD, Lube oil etc) also handled at KDS.
Video conference has been done with all stakeholders for smooth movement of cargo ie Shipping Line, CFS, CHCAA, Transporters, Importers and Exporters.
Close coordination is being done with Customs and State Authorities and Police for online clearance and movement of goods.

To promote rail movement 50% discount in rail terminal haulage charges have been given. Further Ministry of Shipping has advised for remission of various charges.
