Cantonment Boards in Punjab, Haryana & Himachal take steps to combat COVID-19

Chandigarh, Mar 26 (UNI) While the armed forces are coordinating efforts with civil authorities to contain COVID-19, the Cantonment Boards across Haryana, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh have taken number of steps in this direction which among other things include creating Quarantine/Isolation facilities.
According to a defence wing release here on Thursday, Cantonment Board Ambala, Amritsar, Ferozpur, Jutogh, Dalhousie, Subathu, Bakloh, Kasauli and Khasyol have issued directions to close down eateries, shops(except those selling essential items), parks and undertaken spray of disinfectants to eliminate the virus. Entry to the office premises has been restricted. Masks and sanitisers have been distributed among the staff.
Awareness campaigns are also being carried out by distributing pamphlets with guidelines of Dos and Don'ts, and making recorded announcements in the cantonment area. At some places masks and sanitisers have been distributed among the poor and needy people.
Instructions have also been issued under the Cantonment Board Act to sensitise religious institutions to avoid gathering of people. Preparation of hospital facilities as possible quarantine locations is also being done. Daily need items and grocery items are being supplied door-to-door so that people do not come out of their houses.
The Cantonment Boards are coordinating with the local civil administration to ensure lockdown and reporting of violations.
A 20-bed isolation centre is being built in Cantonment Board School in Dalhousie. Cantonment Board Ferozpur has set up an 18 bedded quarantine ward in Cantonment Board hospital in association with local civil hospital.
A two-bed isolation centre is being built by Cantonment Board Bakloh apart from a two-bedded hospital.
Cantonment Board Amritsar has made a two-bed quarantine centre in the cantonment board dispensary. Ambala Cantonment Board has provided a quarantine centre in the Vatsalya school premises. Kausauli Cantonment Board has reserved a special ward in the cantonment hospital as Quarantine ward.
Entry of tourists has been restricted till the end of this month.
Meanwhile, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held a review meeting with senior officials of Ministry of Defence (MoD) on the action plan of the Ministry to deal with the COVID-19 situation, today.
During the meeting, the Minister expressed appreciation on the proactive role played by the Armed Forces and various departments of MoD in evacuating Indian nationals as well as foreigners from COVID-19 affected countries and ensuring them proper care at various quarantine facilities.
He urged the Armed Forces and other departments to gear up their preparedness and provide all required assistance to the civilian administration at various levels.

COVID-19 toll in HP increases to two
