Canadian govt removes Syria from its list of terror sponsor states, revokes HTS' terrorist designation

Damascus, Dec 6 (UNI) The Canadian government has removed Syria from its list of terror-sponsoring states, and officially revoked Ottawa's terrorist entity designation of the Islamist militant outfit Hayat Tahrir al-Sham's (HTS), joining the list of Western nations – who in recognition of the new Syrian regime – have proceeded to ease their economic restrictions on Damascus.
Ottawa's move came after the HTS ousted the country's long-time leader Bashar al-Assad, and took over the presidency of the war-torn nation last December.
Releasing a statement, the Canadian Foreign Ministry wrote "These decisions were not taken lightly," adding that it was "in line with recent decisions taken by our allies, including the UK, and the US follow the efforts by the Syrian transitional government to advance Syria's stability."
