Cabinet Secretary flags gap b/w actual passengers arrived and those currently monitored

New Delhi, Mar 27 (UNI) Expressing deep concerns over the gap between the number of international passengers arrived and those who are actually being monitored, Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba on Friday asked States to set up a surveillance system to monitor and fill this gap strictly at the earliest.
The Bureau of Immigration under the Home Ministry, had shared the details of over 15 lakh passengers who arrived India between Jan 18 and Mar 23, before the ban on landing of international flights.
In a letter written to all Chief Secretaries of the States on Thursday, he said that there was a gap in the number of passengers who are being monitored and the actual number of people who have arrived. ''This may seriously jeopardize our efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19, given that many amongst the people who have tested positive for COVID-19 so far in India have an international travel history'', the Cabinet Secretary said.
