New Delhi, Jun 29 (UNI) The Cabinet today gave its approval to a model law that proposes that shops and establishments could be given freedom to operate for 365 days and fix their opening and closing time. The proposed law also permits for employment of women for late night duties. Briefing mediapersons about the Cabinet decisions, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said here that the aim of the new law was to create more opportunities for jobs. The operation of malls, shops and other establishment and allowing women for night shift would provide more jobs to people, including women. The Bill named ‘Model Shops and Establishment (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Bill, 2016’ ensures that there would be no discrimination against women in the matter of recruitment, training, transfer or promotions. The new law will cover only establishments employing ten or more workers except manufacturing units. It says women would be be permitted during night shift, if the provision of shelter, rest room ladies toilet, adequate protection of their dignity and transportation etc. exists. Mr Jaitley said the model law would now be set to states for their Comment and they would be given the freedom to make changes in their law as per their local needs and conditions.
