Cabinet approves new sand mining policy in Bihar

Patna, Aug 13 (UNI) Bihar government today approved new sand mining policy to regulate the supply and marketing of sand in the state in transparent manner.
Principal Secretary of Cabinet Department Sanjay Kumar said here that a decision to this effect was taken in state cabinet meeting this evening chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. The new sand policy approved by the cabinet would be enforced from January 1, 2020, he added.
"No one would be given lease for sand mining on more than two ghats or total area of 200 hectares, whichever would be less", Mr Kumar said adding that the step had been taken to break monopoly of sand mining mafias who were found to be active earlier. Under the new arrangements, sand could be purchased both online and offline, he further said and added that price of sand would be fixed on the basis of market forces.
