Bali, Dec 2 (UNI) Double Olympic medallist P V Sindhu joined Lakshya Sen in the semifinals stage of the BWF World Tour Finals here on Thursday.
Sindhu, who is the only Indian to win the title in 2018, hardly broke a sweat to defeat Germany's Yvonne Li 21-10, 21-13 in 31 minutes. The Indian will next take on Pornpawee Chochuwong of Thailand in the knockout stage of women's singles event.
In men's singles event, Lakshya lost to Olympic champion Viktor Axelsen by 15-21, 14-21 in just 46 minutes. However, the Indian was already guaranteed a place in the semifinal following the pull out of Japan's Kento Momota and Denmark's Rasmus Gemke due to injuries.
The 20-year-old from Almora finished second in the Group A.
In another men's singles event, Kidambi Srikanth bowed out after losing to Thailand's Kunlavut Vitidsarn 18-21, 7-21. Srikanth will face Lee Zii Jia of Malaysia in his final Group B match.
India women's doubles pairing of Ashwini Ponnappa and N Sikki Reddy were handed a 19-21, 20-22 defeat by Bulgaria's Gabriela Stoeva and Stefani Stoeva. The Indians will meet Chloe Birch and Lauren Smith of England in their final Group B match.
Meanwhile, India men's doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will not compete further in the tournament after handing a walkover to Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo of Indonesia. The Indians were forced to withdraw after Rankireddy complained of knee pain.
