Basel, Aug 23 (UNI) India's ace shuttlers PV Sindhu and Sai Praneeth won their respective matches and entered the quarter-finals while Saina Nehwal, Kidambi Srikanth and HS Prannoy lost their matches and crashed out of BWF World Championships here in Switzerland.
The fifth seeded Sindhu dominated against America's 9th seed Beiwen Zhang and beat her 21-14 21-6 in 34 minutes on Thursday. Sindhu will now face her old rival and 2nd seed Taiwan's Tai Tzu-ying in the quarter-finals.
Sindhu became the 2nd Indian shuttler after Sai Praneeth to reach the quarter-finals of the ongoing edition of world championships in Basel. Praneeth defeated 6th seed Anthony Ginting 21-19, 21-13 in 56 minutes in the men's singles Round of 16.
Another Indian shutttler Kidambi Srikanth had a bad day and he lost to Thailand’s Kantaphon Wangcharoen 21-14, 21-13 in 40 minutes.
HS Prannoy put up a good fight against top seed Kento Momota but eventually lost by 21-19, 21-12 in 56 minutes.
In the last match of the day, Saina Nehwal could not convert two match points for a straight-game win before losing to world No 12 Mia Blichfeldt 21-15, 25-27, 12-21 in a 72-minute encounter.
