Buttler opposes boycott of Afghanistan clash at CT

Kolkata, Jan 21 (UNI) England captain Jos Buttler on Tuesday expressed his belief that boycotting Afghanistan in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy is "not the way to go."
The comment came in response to a question related to political calls in the UK to withdraw from the February 26 match in Lahore due to the Taliban's suppression of women in Afghanistan.
The controversy arose following a letter from Labour MP Tonia Antoniazzi, co-signed by over 160 British politicians, urging the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to take a stand against the "sex apartheid" enforced by the Taliban. The letter demanded England’s men's team protest by boycotting the game.

Sachin Baby's half-ton takes Kerala to a strong total

17 Feb 2025 | 7:47 PM

Ahmedabad, Feb 17 (UNI) Sachin Baby's unbeaten 69 helped Kerala post 206 for four at stumps on the opening day of the first semifinal of the Ranji Trophy here on Monday.
Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Kerala got off to a steady start as openers Akshay Chandran and Rohan Kunnummal put on a 60-run stand for the first wicket. However, the partnership was broken in the 21st over when Akshay Chandran (30) was run out.
Soon after, Ravi Bishnoi trapped Kunnummal (30) leg before wicket, while Varun Nainar (10) fell cheaply. Jalaj Saxena then joined Baby in the middle and attempted to rebuild the innings. Their partnership was eventually broken when Arjun Nagwaswalla dismissed Jalaj Saxena (30).
At the close of play, Kerala stood at 206 for four, with Sachin Baby (69 not out) and Mohammad Azharuddin (30 not out) holding fort.
For Gujarat, Arjun Nagwaswalla, Priyajitsinh Jadeja, and Ravi Bishnoi picked up a wicket each.
