New Delhi, Sep 28 (UNI) Staring at disruptions in running industries in National Capital Region (NCR) following the directions issued by the Commission for Air Quality Management, which prohibited use of gensets from October 1, the industry associations in the region have submitted a joint petition to allow use of gensets where electricity shortage is less than 3%.
The petition has suggested that ‘instead of a blanket ban on use of gensets, industries may be allowed to use gensets wherever the average power shutdown is less than 3%’.
The industry associations based in NCR districts of NCT Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh have come together under the umbrella of Federation of Indian Micro and Small and Medium Enterprises (FISME) to jointly sign the petition for submission to the commission, an official statement said on Wednesday.
“Industries are forced to use gensets as the last resort when grid power is not available, even for a brief period, even though it has to shell out twice the cost for the genset produced energy. Processes in large number of industries can’t shut plant instantly and need power back-up even if shutdowns are for a short duration”, the petition has said.
For areas where power outages are more, the petition has asked the Commission to direct utilities to submit time bound program to improve quality of supplies in cases where the downtime is more than 3%
The joint petition has mentioned the directions sent by the Commission in Feb 2022 to State Electricity Boards of the four NCR states to ensure power supply.
The petition has further pointed out that heating and boilers operating with diesel accounted for most of air pollution (estimates 80%) in industries and such industries have already agreed to comply with the orders of the Commission.
Besides FISME, the petitioners included Noida Entrepreneurs Association, Apex chamber, Delhi, Meerut and Ghaziabad districts chapters of Indian Industries Association, Fridabad Industries Association, Faridabad IMT Industries Association, Sarurpur Industrial Area, Bhiwadi Manufacturers Association, Gurgaon Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), Nathupur Industrial Association, Rai Industrial Area Association among others.
