Around 11.6 per cent of the participants said that the Real Estate developers, whose projects are in the advance stage of completion and who have retained their workers at the project site during the lockdown period, would take up their projects and try to complete them at the earliest.
Around nine per cent of project fraternity people thought most of the promoters would like to complete the ongoing projects, especially in the Infrastructure sector, so that their revenue inflows will improve. However, this will depend on the availability of labour and funds. Architects, Consultants and Contractors said they would concentrate on completing their ongoing projects.
Commenting on the long-term scenario, nearly one-fifth of the surveyed people felt that the Pharmaceuticals and Healthcare sectors would continue to be the leaders in announcing and implementing new projects. Additionally, Medical Equipment, Automobiles, Textiles, Capital Goods sectors would attract increased investment.
The survey participants expected the “Work from Home” culture to continue during the post COVID-19 era. Hence, they saw demand for housing (bigger houses) to go up in the long run.
According to the survey, after a complete lockdown of 60+ days, it is not going to be easy for a project promoter to restart work on his ongoing projects.
Of the total 233 project fraternity people surveyed, 131 (56.2 per cent) said that finding the requisite number of labour is going to be the biggest hurdle of project promoters.
Around 53 per cent of the survey participants highlighted finance as the next biggest hurdle in reviving the business. The availability of raw materials and equipment is the third biggest issue business persons would face once the lockdown is lifted and commercial activities are allowed. Quick transportation of the materials to factories and machinery equipment to project sites is the fourth largest hurdle Indian entrepreneurs would face in the post-lockdown period, they said.
. Mr Hegde said the Projects Today research team contacted over 400 project fraternity people across the country in the first week of May 2020. Of this, 233 respondents located in 14 states and 30 cities responded to the survey and mailed their opinions. The participants were selected from the four major pillars of the Indian projectfraternity – Promoters, Architects, Consultants and Contractors.
