The sectoral indices that rose were Realty by 3.29 pc, Materials by 2.66 pc, Utilities by 2.26 pc, Consumer Durable by 2.26 pc, Metal by 2.26 pc, Health Care by 1.91 pc and Telecom by 1.63 pc.
The indices that slipped were Coal India by 1.42 pc and Infosys by 1.01 pc.
The major Sensex gainers were Power Grid Corporation of India by 3.67 pc, NTPC by 3.27 pc, Asian Paints by 3.06 pc, Bharti Airtel by 2.91 pc, Yes Bank by 2.85 pc, HDFC by 2.81 pc, IndusInd Bank by 2.61 pc and ONGC by 2.58 pc.
The major Sensex losers were Coal India by 1.48 pc, Infosys by 0.94 pc, Bajaj Auto by 0.07 pc and Reliance Industries by 0.03 pc.
Vedanta rose 5.5 pc. The company notified on Thursday that the management committee, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Directorate General of Hydrocarbons (DGH) of a hydrocarbon Discovery in well A3-2 within its operated block KG-OSN-2009/3 within Krishna-Godavari Basin, East Coast of India. Vedanta holds 100 pc participating interest in the block. A3-2 is the first exploration well drilled within the KG-OSN-2009/3 block.
Multiple reservoir zones were encountered in the Mesozoic rift formation between the depths of 3351-3944m MDBRT with indications of hydrocarbon during drilling and formation evaluations. Down hole formation tester (MDT) sampled oil and gas from the zones of interest. The zone from 3610-3715m MDBRT flowed gas to surface during well testing. Further, appraisal will be required to assess the potential commerciality of
this Mesozoic rift discovery.
