Bucknor among 7 to be inducted into Cricket Hall of Fame

Indianapolis, Oct 5 (UNI) Jamaican-born international umpire Stephen Anthony Bucknor is among seven persons to be inducted into 2017 Cricket Hall of Fame. Clement “Busta” Lawrence (posthumously), Earl Daley, Cliff Roye, Clement Thompson, Charles Simpson and Syed Balkhi are the other inductees this year. The function to felicitate them will be held at Hartford’s Sheraton Hotel, Windsor Locks, Connecticut, on October 7 Bucknor is the most respected and experienced umpire in International Cricket Council’s elite panel until his retirement in 2009. He officiated in a record 128 Test matches between 1989 and 2009, and 181 One Day Internationals, including five successive Cricket World Cup finals from 1992 to 2007. Stephen Bucknor was also a FIFA referee in World Cup soccer qualifiers. He will be inducted along with six other individuals: Clement “Busta” Lawrence (posthumously), Earl Daley, Cliff Roye, Clement Thompson, Charles Simpson and Syed Balkhi at the annual Induction Ceremony which will be held at Hartford’s Sheraton Hotel, Windsor Locks, Connecticut, on Saturday, October 7. Bucknor was also a FIFA referee in World Cup soccer qualifiers. Cricket Council USA (CCUSA) chairman Mahammad Qureshi will be the chief guest Cricket Hall of Fame function. Speaking about the event Qureshi said,"This is truly a wonderful event that is being hosted by Cricket Hall of Fame and CCUSA has always been a supporter of this event. This is yet another positive for the development of cricket in America and people the world over can see just how serious people take their cricket here. "As for the guys who are being inducted, I just want to say well done and thanks to them for their contribution to the game of cricket.
