BSNL to set up 2000 mobile towers in Assam

Guwahati, May 9 (UNI) In order to boost connectivity in Assam, BSNL will set up 2,000 mobile towers soon in the state.
Major thrust will be on improving connectivity in rural and border areas of the state, Chief General Manager (Assam circle) of BSNL MK Seth said, participating in an AIR talk show here last evening. He said BSNL has adopted elaborate plans under Digital India and Digital Assam programs. He said BSNL is all set to improve connectivity at border and rural areas in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh at the cost of Rs 2,000 crore. Mr Seth said 7,287 km of optical fibre cables have been laid in Assam by the BSNL and all the Gram Panchyats in the state will be connected through optical fibre network within this financial year. On post-demonetisation scenario, Mr Seth said data downloads have remarkably increased in Assam after demonetization. He further said BSNL is fully preapared to extend support to particularly tea gardens at far flung areas to set up ATM services. UNI SG RN 1441
