BSNL to announce 2,000 cr profit for FY 15-16

New Delhi, Jul 5 (UNI) Public sector telecom major Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) which ran into heavy losses for years, is going to announce a profit of Rs 2,000 crore during the financial year 2015-16.
Giving the details of Cabinet decision here today, Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said the BSNL is adding 20 to 22 lakh customers every month since January this year and achieving major goals. This is more than any other private telecom company n the recent past.
He said the company which was in loss till last year had 7 to 8 lakh customers is poised to earn profit more than expected. BSNL has improved its functioning and going to announce a profit of around 2,000 crore in the financial year 15-16.
The company is expected to announce more than 40 per cent growth in income from enterprise services in 2015-16, as per unaudited results.
Announcing the removal in anomalies in BSNL pensioners, he said BSNL in the road of recovery as it is riding on the success of a slew of business initiatives for individual and enterprise customers.
BSNL was on the track to recovery already, registering Rs 672 crore in operating profit in the financial year 2014-15. BSNL’s income from services grew by 4.16 per cent in 2014-15, a turnaround from the negative growth it saw in 2013-14.
At the individual customer level, initiatives like free night calling, wi-fi services and broadband services helped in improving the operating income, the company is adding more customers than any other private telecom operators in recent months.
