Jalandhar, Jan 17 (UNI) The Border Security Force on Friday seized 22 packets of contraband suspected to be heroin from the Area of Responsibility near BoP Chontra in Gurdaspur sector.
A spokesperson said that the BSF troops deployed at the BoP Chontra observed movements of some suspicious persons ahead of the Border Security fence on the late last night and challenged them but they continued to advance towards the Border Security Fence.
In order to stop their misadventure, the troops opened fire on them following which the miscreant ran towards the Pakistan Territory taking advantage of dense fog and undulated ground.
During search conducted early this morning, the troops recovered 22 packets of heroin weighing one kg each, 90 cartridges, two smart-phones, one normal cell phone, WI-Fi connectors and a pipe used for dropping drugs into the Indian Territory.
Value of the heroin seized is said to be Rs. 110 crore in the International market.
This is first big consignment recovered by the BSF at the Indo-Pak border during the first month of the current calendar year.
