Barasat, Aug 19 (UNI) A BSF patrol party, guarding the Indo-Bangla border in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas, has nabbed seven cattle smugglers, after chasing them for about six hours, from border outpost of Swarupnagar, Police said today.
The cattle thieves, in a bid to escape from the BSF jawans, jumped into a water hyacinth covered pond on Sunday, but the patrol party retrieved them from the water body after six hours of chase.
The incident happened at Koijuri under Swarupnagar bock in North 24 Parganas. The stretch of Indo-Bangla border in the area is extremely porous and a safe haven for cattle smugglers. The clandestine market just across the border fetches at least Rs 5000 instantly, for a stolen cow.
