Border towns of Keran, Karnah, Machil, Gurez remain cut off

Srinagar, Jan 18 (UNI) Border towns of Keran, Karnah, Machil and Gurez besides dozens of other far-flung and remote villages, including those near the Line of Control (LoC), remained cut off from their district and tehsil headquarters due to heavy to very heavy snowfall on Monday.
Power generator in a shed was damaged in a snow avalanche while efforts are being made to airlift several people from border town of Gurez to Bandipora. These persons were injured in snow avalanches, official sources said.
All the roads leading to border towns of Keran, Karnah, Machil and dozens of other far-flung and remote villages, including those near LoC, remained closed due to very heavy snowfall for three days from Monday, an official of Police Control Room (PCR), Kupwara told UNI over phone.
