Chandigarh, Nov 2 (UNI) India's Rohan Bopanna and Denis Shapovalov of Canada were defeated by Karen Khachanov and Andrey Rublev of Russia by 7-5, 6-7(1), 10-8 in the men's doubles quarterfinals of the € 5,791,280 ATP-1000 Tennis Tournament in Paris on Friday.
Bopanna and Shapovalov served 10 aces and committed three double faults. They won two out of two break points and saved four of seven break points. They kept their first service 60 per cent in.
Khachanov and Rublev served four aces and committed three double faults and kept their first service 73 per cent in. They won three of seven break points and muffed two break points. The match lasted one hour and 21 minutes.
In the first set, Bopanna and Shapovalov were broken in the 11th game as Khachanov and Rublev gained a 6-5 lead. Khachanov and Rublev held their service in the 12th game to clinch the set.
Bopanna and Shapovalov won the second set. After exchanging breaks in the first two games, Bopanna and Shapovalov broke their opponents in the fourth game to take a 3-1 lead. Bopanna and Shapovalov got another break in the sixth game to make it 5-1. Khachanov and Rublev hit back and won six games in a row to take a 6-5 lead. Khachanov and Rublev were broken in the 12th game to tie six-all. In tie breaker, Bopanna and Shapovalov clinched the set in tie-breaker 7-6 (1), taking the game down to the wire.
In the match tie-breaker, they were tied 5-5 before Khachanov and Rublev wrapped up the match with a 10-8 score.
