Boost in cruise tourism in Asia can lead to greater employment opportunities closer to home: Expert

Panaji, Jun 22 ( UNI) Hundreds of cruise industry jobs could be for the taking in the coming years, due to a concerted push by the central government to promote the cruise tourism industry along the Western Coast, according to Parixit Pai Fondekar, Director of the Goa-based American College of Culinary and Language Arts.
In a press conference addressed on Thursday, Mr Fondekar said," Goans account got a sizeable chunk of the workforce in the global cruise tourism industry and said that youngsters from Goa could look to the industry as a major potential employer, if they hone their professional skills in the culinary arts, for which there is high demand."
It is estimated that in the next 5 years 950 cruise ships will enter Goan waters. There is also a proposal to introduce cruises from Mumbai to Bali. The cruise will make the journey to Bali with stopovers in Goa, Kochi and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
