Bombay HC permits Beed resident to agitate against CAA, NRC; Censures authorities

Aurangabad, Feb 15 (UNI) The Aurangabad bench of Bombay High Court on Saturday rebuked the authorities for denying permission to man from Beed district to stage protest against the newly amended citizenship law.
The Court said that it is enshrined in the Indian Constitution that people can hold agitations in a peaceful manner.
While hearing a petition filed by one Ifthekhar Zaki Shaikh from Majalgaon of Beed who was denied permission by the district administration and police department to hold a ‘dharna’ daily against Citizenship (Amendment) Act and National Register of Citizens on January 31, a division bench of Justices T V Nalavade and M G Shevalikar observed that those who are agitating peacefully against CAA and NRC should not be labelled as ‘traitors’ and said that they have rights under the Indian Constitution to hold peaceful agitations.
