Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan inaugurates Kolkata International film festival

Kolkata, Nov 10 (UNI) The 23rd edition of the Kolkata International Film
Festival (KIFF) was kicked off this evening in vintage musical style by
Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan.


Mr Bachchan inaugurated the festival by lighting the ceremonial lamp.

Thousands of film lovers gathered to attend the glittering ceremony here
at the Netaji Indoor Stadium where they were left mesmerised by the
presence of Amitabh Bachchan, actors-cum-brand ambassador of the
state Shah Rukh, Khan, Kamal Hassan, Kajol, Mahesh Bhatt, and famous
British director Michael Winterbottom and a galaxy of film celebrities,
national and international delegates and eminent personalities of all
walks of life, which was presided over by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

The eight-day-long festival organised by state government will screen
143 films from 53 countries under 16 different categories till November
17.

Iranian film Yellow has been selected as the opening film.

The United Kingdom as the focus country in the 23rd edition of the
Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF)
All through the eight days, films will be shown at 12 auditoria – Nandan
1, 2 and 3, Rabindra Sadan, Sisir Mancha, Navina Cinema, Star Theatre,
Mitra Cinema, Inox at Salt Lake City Centre 1 Mall, Purbashree Auditorium
at Salt Lake EZCC, Nazrul Tirtha and PVR Mani Square.
