Karwar, Karnataka, Jan 22(UNI) The death toll in yesterday's boat tragedy off Karwar coast in Karnataka rose to 12 with recovery of four more bodies, a toddler, two men and a woman, found by Indian Navy, Coast Guard on Tuesday.
The tragedy occurred when a motorised boat carrying at least 32 persons for a fair in Kuramgad, a island 3 km off the Karwar coast, capsized in turbulent waters at the confluence of River Kali and Arabian sea off the coast, when they were returning attending the annual fair of Sri Narasimha Swamy temple on the island that opens for two days in a year.
A top district official said eight bodies were recovered yesterday. After a nightlong search, four more bodies were recovered today and at least two more persons are reported missing.
