Kannur, Oct 13 (UNI) Mortal remains of BJP worker K Ramith, who was hacked to death in an alleged attack by CPI(M), were today consigned to flames at Avatty-Chavassery near Mattanur. The mortal remains of 26-year-old Ramith, a resident of Pinnari village, were consigned to flames near the place where his father C Uthaman (42) -- also killed by CPI(M) -- was cremated in 2002. A funeral procession was organised by BJP-RSS workers from Mahe bridge to where Ramith's body was kept to pay homage at Thalassery bus stand, at his house Olayambalam in Pinarayi. Later, the body was taken to Avatty and the funeral was performed around 1400 hrs. Karnataka MP Naleen Kumar Kattil, former BJP state presidents V Muraleedharan, P K Krishnadas, BJP and RSS state leaders K Surendran, Gopalan Kutty master, K N Radhakrishnan, K Ranjith, district president P Sathyaprakash and large number of BJP-RSS workers attended the funeral. Meanwhile, the BJP-called state-level hartal, in protest against the murder of Ramith in Kannur district, was total. Isolated incidents of attacks against the CPI-controlled N E Balaram memorial building at Thalassery were reported so far. Additional six companies of police from nearby districts were deployed at the politically sensitive places of Koothuparamba, Thalassery and Kathirur and the situation was under control, police said.
