BJP welcomes SC verdict on Aadhaar, calls it 'victory of the Modi government'

New Delhi, Sep 26 (UNI) BJP on Wednesday welcomed the Supreme Court judgement on the Aadhaar card row and said it has to be seen as "victory of India and victory of the Modi government".
"We see the judgement as the big victory of the Modi government, for the pro-poor Modi government.
Because basically the Supreme Court today has upheld the constitutional validity of Aadhaar...the Court has also said it does not violate privacy," BJP spokesman Sambit Patra told reporters minutes after the verdict was passed by the apex Court.
The BJP spokesman said, "Very importantly, the Congress party always stood with the illegal immigrants and ironically the Congress has been exposed today like never before when the Supreme Court said that Aadhaar is not for the illegal immigrants".
"This is what BJP has been fighting for decades, we see this as victory of India and also the victory of the Modi government," Mr Patra said.
He said the Supreme Court has also maintained that the Aadhaar card is 'quite safe' and cannot be duplicated. "And very importantly it has said that it gives strength to the poor people," he said.
The BJP spokesman maintained that the Modi government's basic aim has been to ensure that "what is the right of the poor people goes directly to the pockets of the poor people without the middlemen consuming it".
In this context, he also criticised the Congress and said: "....this is where the Congress party has been totally exposed. The Congress party has always favoured the middlemen and that is why they wanted the Aadhaar to be struck down".
Therefore, he said: "The Supreme Court today stood with the poor of the country just as the Modi government....which we welcome".
