New Delhi, Jan 16 (UNI) The BJP on Tuesday said that the Congress should come out "clearly" on whether it supports senior VHP leader Pravin Togadia, who is facing a 10-year old case in Rajasthan.
".....This kind of politics just shows that the Congress party has no real agenda...Let
the government and administrative machinery do its job," BJP spokesman Aijaj
Ilmi told a television news channel.
"No one is above the law.....," he said adding "but if Congress has any sympathy for
someone who is facing the law, they should come out clearly".
On the controversy sparked off after Congress leader Arjun Modhwadia and Patidar leader
Hardik Patel met Mr Togadia, who has slammed the BJP regimes in centre, Rajasthan
and Gujarat for targeting him, the saffron party spokesman said the Congress should not
"jump into every situation to contaminate" the situation.
The remarks come on the backdrop after a known hardliner Hindutva leader Togadia
made startling claims in Ahmedabad that the Central, Rajasthan and Gujarat
government agencies are "working" against him.
Mr Hardik Patel and Mr Modhwadia met Mr Togadia to enquire about his health.
The firebrand Hindutva leader was reported missing from VHP’s office in Ahmedabad
on Monday after Rajasthan police had landed there to serve a court warrant in
connection with a 2001 case.
Dr Togadia, a medico-turned firebrand Hindutva activist, was later found
in private hospital.
The BJP spokesman Mr Ilmi said, "Mr Togadia is facing a case in Rajasthan for last 10 years and
Rajasthan police is well within its ambit to question him on the case, so why should
anyone shy away and not face the law".
According to Rajasthan police, Mr Togadia had allegedly violated prohibitory orders
under Section 144 — which limits the assembly of people — in Gangapur in Rajasthan
in 2006.
A warrant was issued by a sessions court in Gangapur under the Indian Penal Code’s
Section 188, which pertains to disobedience of a public servant’s order.
