BJP waiting for Center's nod to call off ties with AJSU, as relations between the two sides dip further

Ranchi, Nov 12 (UNI) Locked in a fierce seat sharing battle with its junior ally AJSU party
for Vidhan Sabha elections in the state the BJP is waiting for signal to call off the
alliance between the two parties.
Relationship between the two parties have strained badly in the state after AJSU
declared its candidates on 12 seats out of which on four it was in direct fight with the
BJP. Moreover the regional outfit has also fielded its candidate from Chakardharpur
from where state BJP president Laxman Giluwa is contesting.
AJSU supremo Sudesh Mahto has travelled to Delhi twice and has held talks with
the senior leaders of the BJP including Amit Shah, JP Nadda and Om Prakash Mathur.
The party had initially demanded 19 seats but later it was toned down to 17 which
the BJP was unwilling to concede. The relations also took a beating as AJSU also
fielded its candidates from Lohardaga and Chandankiyari seats.
Lohardaga and Chandankiyari have turned out to be the biggest bone of contention
between the two warring allies. The BJP has yet not declared its candidates on these
two seats from where Sukhdeo Bhagat and Amar Bauri are ticket hopefuls.
In a press conference AJSU supremo Sudesh Mahto however did not comment on
whether the alliance has been called off but maintained that talks were still on between
the two sides.
Meanwhile, the actions of the AJSU party has taken BJP by surprise as the party has
still not come on a concrete decision. Hectic activities and a series of meetings took
place in the state BJP which commenced earlier in the day with election management
committee meet followed by the meeting of the state core committee which was held
late evening at the residence of Chief Minister Raghubar Das.
BJP sources claimed that party leaders have expressed their desire before the Chief
Minister stating that time has come when the alliance should be called off and party
should go alone with full force in the polls, however a section of leaders traded caution
and said that relations should not be strained to a very low and the option of post poll
alliance should be kept open if both parties go their separate ways.
State BJP spokesperson Pratul Shahdeo who spoke with the media outside the CM's
residence post the end of the meeting said talks were held in the meeting over election
management on the 13 seats where polls will be held in the first phase and how victory
of party candidates will be ensured.
He said that AJSU was a long time ally of the BJP as the alliance was not on seats but
for the development of Jharkhand.
Without giving any direct reply on alliance between the two sides he said that BJP
knows how to follow the coalition dharma and considered AJSU supremo Sudesh Mahto
as a mature politician whose thoughts on the development of the state was same as that
of Chief Minister Raghubar Das.
However sources said that entire situation will be apprised to central leadership of the
party and only after a signal from New Delhi is received the party will take an official stand
as to whether to be in the alliance or call it off as tomorrow is the last day of filing of
nominations for the first phase of elections in the state.
