BJP to contest 60-65 seats in Punjab

New Delhi, Jan 17 (UNI) The Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) will contest 60-65 seats in Punjab, party leaders said after a meeting of the core group for Punjab polls held here on Monday.
According to sources, discussions are on with allies Captain Amarinder Singh's Punjab Lok Congress and Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa's Shiromani Akali Dal (Sanyukt) over seat sharing.
BJP President JP Nadda, Home Minister Amit Shah, General Secretary (Organisation) BL Santosh, Punjab's election in-charge Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Punjab BJP organisation in-charge Dushyant Gautam, state party president Ashwani Kumar Sharma, election co-in-charge Meenakshi Lekhi were among the leaders who attended the meeting.
Gautam told media after the meeting that the upcoming polls were discussed. He said the BJP would contest on more than half of the 117 seats in Punjab, which would be between 60 to 65 seats.
He said discussions are on with the allies over seat sharing for the state.
With date of Punjab elections being rescheduled to February 20, the BJP leaders will hold another round of meeting before finalising the list of candidate.
The central election committee of the BJP will meet on January 19 to finalise the list of candidates after the meetings of the Punjab core committee.
Punjab will vote on February 20. The polls were earlier scheduled for February 14, but the dates were changed on account of Guru Ravidas Jayanti on February 16.
