BJP to challenge Karnataka law aimed for 'sending critics to jail'

Bengaluru, Dec 11 (UNI) Former Karnataka Chief Minister and MP Basavaraj Bommai on Thursday accused the Congress-led state government of plotting to send to jail—through non-bailable warrants—anyone who speaks against it or its party, under the newly-introduced hate speech law.
He described the law as unconstitutional and a direct threat to democracy, and announced that the BJP will launch a legal challenge against it.
Posting on X, Bommai said the law curtails freedom of speech and personal liberty. “There are already sufficient laws to deal with hate speech. But by bringing a law that prescribes up to ten years of imprisonment, the government aims to target dissenters,” he stated.
