BJP says looking forward to Shiv Sena's reaction on Rahul's Savarkar remark

BJP says looking forward to Shiv Sena's reaction on Rahul's Savarkar remark

New Delhi, Dec 14 (UNI) BJP on Saturday took potshots at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his 'Rahul Savarkar' remark, saying they were looking forward to seeing Shiv Sena defend the statement.

'Looking forward to seeing Shiv Sena defend Rahul Gandhi for his statement implying that 'Veer Savarkar was a coward who apologized' ! ' BJP Social media head Amit Malviya said in a tweet.

Shiv Sena has now and then reiterated its demand to confer Bharat Ratna on Veer Savarkar although the Congress has been openly critical of the Hindutva icon. The Sena has said that Pakistan would not have been created if Savarkar had become the Prime Minister.

Recently, the Shiv Sena broke its 30-year old alliance with the BJP and formed government in Maharashtra allying with the former rivals NCP and the Congress.

Addressing the massive 'Bharat bachao' rally at the Ramleela maidan, Mr Gandhi, speaking on the controversy over his 'Rape in India' remark, said he would not apologise for what is right. 'I was told to apologise for speaking something correct. My name is not Rahul Savarkar. My name is Rahul Gandhi. I will never apologise for speaking the truth,' he said.

Congress Interim president Sonia Gandhi, former PM Dr Manmohan Singh and other leaders of the party also addressed the rally.

Under attack both in Parliament and outside over the Citizenship Amendment Bill, the BJP on last day of the Winter Session on Friday sought to corner Congress over Mr Gandhi's controversial remarks on women and forced the adjournment of the Lok Sabha twice.

Condemning Mr Gandhi's remarks, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh went on to say that such a member does not have "naitik adhikar" (moral right) to continue in the House.
