BJP’s student ‘shav-yatra’ a political spectacle, not a fight for scholarships: Congress

Ranchi, Dec 16 (UNI): Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson Rishikesh Singh today dismissed the BJP Yuva Morcha’s protest over student scholarships as “political theatrics”, alleging that the Centre-led BJP government was deliberately withholding funds meant for OBC students.
Reacting to the BJP Yuva Morcha’s ‘shav-yatra’ in Ranchi, Singh said the protest was not aimed against the Mahagathbandhan government but was an attempt to hide the BJP’s “own failures, hypocrisy and double standards”. He alleged that the same OBC and youth whose cause BJP claims to champion have been denied their constitutional rights by the central government for years.
Singh said the post-matric scholarship scheme is a joint responsibility of the Centre and the state, but the Centre has consistently failed to release its share. He cited figures stating that against a demand of Rs 271 crore for 2023-24, the Centre released only Rs 77 crore. For 2024-25, Rs 33 crore was released against a demand of Rs 253 crore, while for 2025-26, only Rs 13 crore has been released against Rs 370 crore sought by the state.
