BJP's Siliguri district president Abhijit Chowdhury dies in car accident in Murshidabad

Siliguri, Dec 7 (UNI) BJP's Siliguri district president Abhijit Chowdhury died in a car accident in Murshidabad while returning home from Kolkata party office, hours after being re-elected for a second term.
His vehicle was hit by a goods-truck on National Highway 34 in Baharampur on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday.
After the fatal accident, the local people evacuated the BJP leader and rushed him to Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital where the doctors declared brought dead.
The eye witnesses said the BJP leader died on the spot.
The driver and other passengers in the car also sustained wounds.
Chowdhury, a former Chatra Parishad leader, had joined the saffron brigade in 2017 and was made Siliguri district president the following year.
He was given the charge of the party for the second time in a meeting of BJP in Kolkata on Friday.
