Guwahati, May 23 (UNI) The two seats in southern Assam from where the BJP had begun its winning journey in the entire North East nearly three decades ago are once again in its kitty as the ruling party’s fortunes continued to soar in Assam.
The BJP had opened its electoral innings in North East by winning Silchar and Karimganj constituencies in southern part of Assam in 1991, and as the party looks poised to improve upon its 2014 tally of seven seats, the BJP has once again managed to put both these seats in its kitty.
The party has managed to win Karimganj after a long gap, having last tasted successive victories in the seat in 1991 and 1996 by its candidate Dwarka Nath Das and failing to reclaim it all these years.
