New Delhi, Nov 5 (UNI) Slamming the Congress for its "classic hypocrisy', the BJP said on Monday that 'Shivbhakt and Rambhakt ' Congress president Rahul Gandhi was going to temples and his senior leader P Chidambaram was making a mockery of Ram Temple and the Statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
'Today we are witnessing a classic hypocrisy of the Congress. Rahul Gandhi was going to temple after temple and his senior leader P Chidambaram was making a mockery of Ram Temple and the Statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel,' senior BJP leader and Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad told reporters here.
In the morning, Mr Chidambaram said in a tweet, 'At the beginning of five years, the promise is for Development, Jobs and Money in every citizen’s bank account.
'Nothing achieved, at the end of five years, the new promise is for grand Temples, giant Statues and Doles.'
Mr Prasad said Sardar Patel was sidelined during the 'Family rule ' of the Congress. 'Patel died in 1950 and he was conferred with 'Bharat Ratna; in 1991, 41 years after his death. Your senior leader is seeking to mock the great unifier of India,' he said.
He said on one hand , Mr Gandhi who portrays himself as 'Rambhakt' and sometimes as 'Shivbhakt', on the other hand, his senior leader is being sarcastic of temples.
Criticising the Congress, Mr Prasad said this was shameful and demanded that the party express their regret.
He said in the name of 'Pariwar' -- Jawahar Lal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Raji Gandhi and Sanjay Gandhi -- there were 11 government schemes at the Centre and 52 in states, 28 sports tournaments, 19 stadia, five airports, ten universities, 17 awards, 12 museums and national parks, ten medical institutions, seven chairs in film festivals among other things, 'Is this not enough ?'
And, there is one statue of Patel, he said.
'Appropriating any kind of symbol of modern India is the plaque of the family members,' he said.
Mr Prasad said Leader of Congress in the Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge has gone ahead and has called Prime Minister Narendra Modi Hitler and condemned it.
'Shocking that senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge equalled Mr Modi with Hitler. I want to tell him it was Indira Gandhi who governed like Hitler. This is the same Mr Kharge who can't even move an inch without the permission of the family,' he said.
'You talk of 'maryada' (remaining in limits) in Parliament and then, have issued such a comment,' he said.
