New Delhi, Oct 17 (UNI) In the run up to the crucial assembly elections in Maharashtra, Veer Savarkar - the Hindutva icon and the 'controversial' freedom fighter - will continue to be in the news as BJP on Thursday stepped up its campaign to highlight Savarkar's contribution.
"Savarkar conspired to kill Gandhi is a blatant lie peddled by the Congress. Godse’s dying declaration, that was banned by Congress for decades, mentions how he was disillusioned with Savarkar's pacifism and his decision to kill MK Gandhi was a unilateral one and not under his advice...," BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya wrote in a series of tweets.
For his part, BJP chief and Union Home Minister Amit Shah paid homage to Savarkar at an event in Varanasi.
