BJP gears up for Ballari protest tomorrow, padayatra decision pending

Ballari, Jan 16 (UNI) The Bharatiya Janata Party is geared up for a massive protest in Ballari on Saturday even as the final call on its proposed padayatra is expected to come up for discussion at the party’s Core Committee meeting scheduled on the same day, amid continuing political and law-and-order sensitivities in the region.
BJP leader and Legislative Council member N Ravikumar told reporters here on Friday that the leadership would take a collective decision on the padayatra after deliberations at the core committee level. He said the party was closely monitoring the situation following the recent violence in Ballari.
State BJP president Vijayendra Yediyurappa said the timing of the padayatra was linked to organisational issues at the national level, particularly the ongoing process of appointing a new BJP national president. Speaking to reporters in Belagavi earlier in the day, he said that while he was not personally opposed to padayatras by party leaders in Karnataka, such programmes needed clearance from the central leadership to avoid confusion.
