New Delhi, Dec 23 (UNI) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) senior leader and Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Wednesday termed the Jammu and Kashmir District Development Council (DDC) election result as a 'historic win' for the saffron party.
The BJP has emerged the single largest party with registering a win on 75 DDC constituencies followed by J&K National Conference with 67 seats while PDP won 27 and Indian National Congress (INC) Won 26 seats.
"The Bharatiya Janata Party’s victory tells the true story of the changing narrative and political atmosphere of Jammu and Kashmir", Mr Prasad said.
Calling it a victory for India's democracy, the Minister said that this is a reflection of the strengthening of democracy at the grassroots level in Jammu and Kashmir and the strong belief of the people there.
He noted that the people of Jammu and Kashmir have given their clear message that they want "peace and prosperity" in the state and want to build a bright future for themselves and for the generations to come. "It is a victory of their hopes and aspirations", Mr Prasad averred.
He further congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for party's "spectacular victory".
"The massive public outreach initiative of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji in Jammu and Kashmir has had a major positive impact on the people of the state", he said adding that the efforts and initiatives of the prime minister are being appreciated and lauded across the hill state.
Notably, among the political parties, BJP got 24.82 per cent votes followed by JKNC with 16.46 per cent, INC 13.82 per cent, PDP 3.96 per cent, JKAP 5.3 per cent, JKPC 1.98 per cent vote share while rest of the vote share went to others including independent candidates.
