BJP accuses Congress of bringing pressure on judiciary through impeachment motion

New Delhi, Apr 20 (UNI) The BJP on Friday said the `Dirty Tricks Department’ of the Congress party was at work in bringing an impeachment motion in the Rajya Sabha against the Chief Justice of India for not giving the kind of judgments they wanted in certain cases.
Speaking to media persons here, party leader and MP Meenakshi Lekhi accused the Congress and other Opposition parties of hatching a conspiracy to bring pressure on the judiciary and of repeatedly interfering in judicial processes.
Citing examples of acquittal of Gujarat BJP Minister Maya Kodnani in the Naroda Patiya case and the Supreme Court’s dismissal of PILs for probing CBI special judge B H Loya’s death, she said the Congress and the Opposition were getting exposed because over a period of time they have falsely accused BJP members of all kinds of things which they have not committed. ``And, repeatedly when evidence is tested, it has fallen flat,’’ she said
Ms Lekhi said this also exposes the entire trick of Congress and Opposition parties to bring pressure on the judiciary through certain elements to say that ``if you do not perform as we command, then we will label you with corruption and all kind of charges and bring an impeachment motion against you’’.
``It exposes the bankruptcy of the Opposition,’’ she said.
She pointed out that the Loya case judgement was written by Justice D Y Chandrachud, who had also observed that the petition amounted to contempt but they were exercising restraint and not proceeding with it.
Ms Lekhi went on to ask that 'if by the same yardstick when the 2-G spectrum judgment went against the government, should it have brought impeachment motion against the judges?'
