BJD to raise coal royalty, farm crisis, textbook errors in Parliament

Bhubaneswar/New Delhi, Jul 19 (UNI) Ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament beginning on July 20, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Sunday said it would aggressively raise a host of Odisha-centric issues in both Houses, including the state's alleged denial of a fair share of coal royalty despite being the country's largest coal producer, the agrarian crisis, deteriorating law and order, alleged errors in newly introduced school textbooks affecting over 40 lakh students, and hurdles in the utilisation of MPs' Local Area Development (MPLADS) funds.
The party also said it would press the Centre on national issues such as the prevailing security situation in South Asia, rising inflation, and concerns over ethanol blending in petrol.
Speaking after attending the all-party meeting convened in New Delhi ahead of the session, BJD Rajya Sabha Parliamentary Party leader and Rajya Sabha MP Manas Mangaraj said the party had placed its priorities before the government and would also highlight what it described as the Odisha government's failures over the past two years.
